Kirstin Carlin & Richard Orjis | The First Flower People | Nathan Homestead
Work by KIRSTIN CARLIN (bottom image) and RICHARD ORJIS (top image) is included in "The First Flower People" from 8 December 2016 - 19 February 2017 at Nathan Homestead Gallery in Manurewa.
Curated by Annie Bradley for Auckland Council, the art works in the exhibition portray a wide variety of flowers; they are a mix of luscious, intoxicating, stylised and constructed. In each work the artists bring their method of selecting, framing and manipulating their subjects. This can be seen as a form of ‘flower arranging’ the bending of nature to ‘suit your surroundings, your mood, the weather, the occasion.’ (Constance Spry).
Artists include KIRSTIN CARLIN, Layla Rudneva-MacKay, Richard Maloy, Kim Meek, RICHARD ORJIS, Fiona Pardington, Shintaro and Yoshiko Nakahara and Reuben Paterson.
