The Chartwell Chair
We are pleased to be part of The Chartwell 50th Anniversary Project with The Chartwell Chair being hosted during Stanley Palmer's exhibition 29 January - 22 February 2025.
Rob Gardiner, the founder of the Chartwell Trust and Collection, loves the chance to sit down in art galleries, to slow down and really look at an artwork. He often asks why we are offered a seat at the cinema, theatre, concert hall and sports stadium, and applaud at the end of a performance, but in art galleries, we are conditioned to stand silently in front of a work and move on.
The Chartwell Chair gives gallery visitors the time to relax, feel and be with an artwork, allowing the viewing experience to unfold.
We think Stanley Palmer's show is the ideal show that invites viewers to stop and spend time with it. Our Chartwell Chairs (there are two) are by Danish furniture company Fritz Hansen and made in 1984. Products made by Fritz Hansen usually display characteristic Scandinavian designs where functionality predominates esthetics. Hence, Fritz Hansen's creations mainly show minimalistic designs, with refined lines and recurring use of wood as is the case with these chairs.
Come and say hi and take a seat!
