Recent painting by KIRSTIN CARLIN who has taken her cue from Manet’s last flower paintings, Scottish artist Ann Redpath’s beautifully messy still life paintings, the colours of Matisse’s fauvist landscapes, de Kooning's lurid yellows and greens and the bright colours of industrial signage near her home in New Lynn.
Carlin is painting flowers again but they have gone up a notch in colour and tone. Orange sits against dark magenta and lime green is juxtaposed against dark yellow.
Named after potential South Pacific tropical cyclones as a reference to their intensity and vigour, they are an assortment of floral bouquets - images sourced from a variety of references.
