Heidi Brickell

Bio.

'I am interested in the chorus of languages we use to share in experiences, as well as the uncaptured experience that flows through those nets.'

Based in Ōtaki, Heidi Brickell has a background in te reo Māori and education. Most recently Brickell co-curated Ara within the Āhuru with and for Laree Payne Gallery (2024) and was included in Spring Time is Heart-break at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū (2023). Prior to that Brickell’s major solo exhibition, PAKANGA FOR THE LOSTGIRL (2022-2023) travelled between Te Wai Ngutu Kākā Gallery (formerly ST PAUL St Gallery), Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland; The Physics Room, Ōtautahi; and The Engine Room, Massey University, Pōneke Wellington. Brickell’s work is held in the collections of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, Te Haerenga Collection, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, The Dowse Art Museum and the University of Auckland.⁣⁣⁣⁣

Brickell has recently relocated to Kahungunu ki Heretaunga (an area within Hawkes Bay) where she will stay until mid November to undertake an artist residency in preparation for a major solo exhibition at Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga Hastings Art Gallery, scheduled to take place in February 2025.


Heidi Brickell will exhibit new work as part of a group show "The Secret Life of Plants" at Melanie Roger Gallery in October 2024.
